Jäger-Regiment zu Pferde Nr.12 - Dragoon helmets

An interesting picture of some fellows from Jäger-Regiment zu Pferde Nr.12 wearing Dragoon helmets, owing to supply problems of their distinctive JzP helmets at the time. According to Kraus, they would not receive the blackened steel helmets until 1915.

Great photo Drake! :thumb up:
It would be nice to see the M15 Metalhelmes (Jager & Kurassier) in wartime pictures as well... If anyone has some, by all means please post them!

Love the level of details on the photo: Especially the Mauser K98a they're carrying... you could even see the muzzle covers!

It is a superfine picture! If the helmets offend you we can arrange for you to donate this… :D

I kinda blew the budget on this one, so I might just hang onto it for a few days before I consider which charity to donate it to :-k

I received an email from a fellow in German named Phil, who gave me this very interesting email after reading my ref page of Jäger zu Pferde helmets. . I do not think he would mind me sharing part of it here.

As far as i know from some books (i have some books from the father of my grandma (she was born in 1909). The JzP Regiments 1-7 where issued with a blued version of the Pickelhaube which was worn by the Kürassiere but with the Dragoneradler on it (it has something to do with that the Meldereiter orignally where part of the Guards in Germany which is the reason why the JzP have Uniforms similar to the Kürassiere while for example the French Chasseurs a Cheval had Uniforms similar to those of the Hussars) regiments 1-6 also whore the same boots as the Kürassiere. Regiment 7 had the blued Steel helemt but the boots of the Dragoner.

However they had not enough blued Kürassier Pickelhauben so this is why in the JzP Regiments 8-13 only the Officers where Issued with the blued Kürassier Pickelhaube while the NCOs and other ranks where issued with the same Pickelhaube worn by the Dragoner Regiments 8-13 also (like regiment 7) was issued with Dragoner boots instead of Kürassier boots.
Originally it was planed to issued the blued Kürassier Helm to JzP Regiments 8-13 in 1915 but with the outbreak of the war this was abandoned.

The prussian Kriegsministerium planed to use the Dragonerhelm for the new founded regiments 8-13.
But Kaiser Wilhelm decided, after showing him the uniform with the dragoonhelmet, that they should use the same metallhelmet like the other.
But the leatherhelmets were still orderd and not enough time to order metallhelmets.
