The last purchase of yesterday’s Ottawa Militaria Show was this M15 Jager zu Pferde helmet which was also very affordable considering it was purchased in Cdn. dollars.
I already have a Jager zu Pferde which is in better condition so this one will be a restoration project with the intent of moving it along to someone else. The price was good enough that I just couldn’t pass it up.
When I bought this one the Reichskokarde was missing but, I knew I had one which has been sitting in the “parts drawer” for years now. I also added the chin strap which is an original in my estimation.
This one has some issues with the oxidation of the clover leaf spike base but is otherwise in reasonable condition.
The most immediate issue I think is the stabilization of the liner. Cleaning up the exterior risks further damage to the liner which is torn in a few places.
I’d be grateful for advice from the more seasoned restoration experts here as to how to best go about stabilizing the liner as well as dealing with the oxidation of the clover leaf spike base.
