This is something you do not see every day. JR 365–I have never seen a 300 series Regiment in a spiked helmet. The exact unit information is on the back of the card and is a recruit Depot near the front. Truly something different than the standard Ersatz Bn. picture.

Wow, if that is really his "Altmutter" then it means she is his great-great-grandmother. Not too many of them around nowadays.

I think the town is Kainsbach im Odenwald.

I think you are right Robert.
Altmutter is Greatgreatgrandmother? I was not sure, I thought it was greatgrandmother. She had to be nearly 100 years old, quite a feat in those times

Maybe he did not use the term so literally, great-grandmother would be more reasonable. After all she sent him sausages and evidently she can read his letter - the way he addresses her does not look like he assumes someone else will read it to her.

I felt the title of Frau Altmutter Hübner was interesting, as though she is well known in the community, as I am sure she was. These cards and letters are really very interesting, especially when they contain more that the standard message.

Yes of course, I do not know how I missed that, I try to first write the letters, then go back and make the words fit, and I drew a blank on that one, my transcription made no sense, thanks

The Regimental Commander was actually Major Alfred Hennig (Busche misspells the name). A company commander in Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 170 in 1914, the later char. Oberstleutnant a.D. Hennig was murdered by his own son in Donaueschingen on 23 November 1925!!
