Hello gentlemen!
Since I wanted some more WW1 items than a Marine luger and a 2.nd class Iron cross I bought this Pickelhaube of Ebay. I thought it looked ok and affordable, and needed a only a star rived to be fixed. Im a collector of third reich militaria and Im therefore used to lots of repros. However after browsing a bit on internet I got a bit worried. I give you the link to my helmet and I appreciate any input if nice or not. Also welcome is ofcourse any one with a spare part star rivet:)

Nice helmet, I actually was bidding on that one as well!

Watch Ebay for the star, they show up quite often

Felix,

Looks like you did good. I would of course always want more pictures and to see the back of the wappen but I have no reason to think there is anything wrong. It appears to be some sort of Dienst helmet as the visors are not colored underneath. Often these kinds of helmets have 2 sets of holes in the front which is less desirable. I think one rivet is missing and one other is new. We need to see how these are attached in a picture. Did you pay a buyers fee? Hope not.
I'm glad you said 1st. This hobby is addicting! Welcome again and keep posting!

Hello!
Yes I have to pay 12% bidding fee. But still its a couple of $ 100's less than Ive seen in other sites. When I get the helmet in my hands I will post better photos and we can examine in detail.

I especially wanted a Preussian infantry officers version. They do look good!

Thanks for your kind words so far:)

Yes prices can be all over. Brian or Tony might be able to tell you how to best snug up the back spine. Reproduction stars are easy to find. They regularly have very long bolts and fine threads which give them away as reproductions. So what are you buying for #2 ???? :D :D :)

Hey Felix,
Killer looking first pickel-I also was bidding on this piece. This auction house had some nice pieces-12% buyers fee is reasonable(dont get Gus started)-and I,ve never seen a numbered pickel cover go for $850 !!!-King Weasel

Nice first pick up .I just looked at this one I bid on a 3 bar crimea medal.
As a newewr collector of WW1 haubes ,the guys are right The hobby is addictive. Look at some of the guys website's for different types and styles . Tony has a good site for care and storage ,as well as picture 's of haubes

Well...

As for now I will try to learn more about pickelhaubes and their versions. Im going to enjoy my first one and make a decent dispaly of it. Im going to learn more about ww 1 history.

And there are definetely more versions that are of interest! But prices are so high! A WW 1 collction needs some classic attributes! Im happy for my first one though a little repair is needed.

Cheers gentlemen,
Felix
