Welcome your thoughts

Should it have a plate to hold the spike in the helmet and should the stars be split pins or bolts, and what regiment would this be , many thanks, Paul

Looks like a nice fixer upper, do not give up on it, this one can be restored nicely!

As far as inside the helmet, I would guess that there would not be a metal plate to hold up the spike, normally do not see these on crucifrom bases.

I would think stars with bolts however I have seen both types.

There are numerous postings on this site about fixing up helmets that can help as well as excellant step by step guide to cleaning them up on Tony's site

Just cleaning will do wonders!

good luck

I agree with James and also my own personal experience. These parts you need will come up for auction on ebay. Keep your eyes peeled, you will also need patience. I waited for a certain type of spike for 4 years. But I have one now!

The parts you need come up way more often than that. Good Hunting!

Regarding interior supports for the cruciform spike base, I have seen them made from aluminium as well as black painted tin. The Hessens of course opted for a large round interior disc to support their unique spike. If one had been on this helmet more than likely, you would see the impression of the support on the inside of the shell. Most cruciform helmets I have found do not come with the interior support. That is a very nice helmet! Brian
