A latest acquisition from Steve..A Saxe MG award from 1909. Incredibly rare!
Saxon M G with cords.JPG
Steve can provide comments.

After 50 years of collecting I had only seen this in references .Today my "latest find " arrived .
A Saxon Machine Gun King's prize 1909 .While Prussian M G Kaiser Prizes are hard to find
there was only one Saxon M G Abtlg. # 8 .I placed with it the photo with 2 Saxon shooting award cords .
The Saxon cords are different just like the shoulder straps of 3 Saxon regiments .
Leib Grenadier Regt. 100 ; Saxon Garde Reiter and a Saxon Artillery Regt .
There were 3 Kings cyphers on the straps over a period of time and the same was true
for the cyphers within the shields of the shooting cords . To the left is the cypher for the 3rd
and final King ; to the right the rare cypher " G " for George who only ruled from 1902 to 1904
If other members have a Saxon M G King's prize please let me know .
Thanks

2nd Leib Husaren ;
Many thanks for your interest .
Ever since I got this in a few days ago I wanted to see if I could I D
the Saxon M G -Abt. that won it . So you inspired me to see what I could find out .
I had assumed it was won by Saxon M G -Abt. 8 , the only Saxon M G unit listed in Laine as of 1914
However I got my print out of what units won the Kaiser and Kings prizes .
I found there were 2 other Saxon M G -Abt.
Saxon M G -Abt. Nr. 12 was assigned to Schutzen Regt 108 ; they won the Kings Prize 1905 ; 1907 and 1909
all by 1.Kp.
since the Saxon M G Kings prize was only won one time in 1909 ; Schutzen Regt. 108 was the winner of the Saxon
M G Kings prize that I have
the other Saxon M G Abt. was
Saxon M G -Abt. 19 was assigned to 8. Inf. Regt. Nr. 107 ; between 1903 and 1913 they won the M G prize
only one time in 1911 by 2.Kp.
so the Saxon M G Kings prize was only won a total of 4 times between 1903 to 1913

If someone out there can bring me up to speed as to how many Kp. were in an M G - Abt.
then how many men would be in a single Kp. I could then have an idea of how many prizes were won

I have a Prussian M G Kaiser Prize for 1911 which was won by the 2nd Garde M G - Abt.
Thanks for your interest

Steve:

Very interesting post! I've never seen a "real" M.G. Prize other than the repros floating around.

I started down the road of collecting Kaiser/Kings prizes at one point. I have 13 of them at this point, but they don't show up very often. I have Infantry/Artillery/Jager examples in Kings and Kaiser format but no M.G.

Thanks for posting this it's a terrific piece!
