Hello Eveyone,

Could someone tell me which German units were involved in the battles of Kaunas(Kovno) and Vilnius(Wilna) in 1915?

Thank you,
Milosz

Thank you Glenn

I was looking for information about the 3 Reserve Division and in:
"Histories of Two Hundred and Fifty-One Divisions of the German Army which Participated in the War (1914-1918)" in the chaper about the 3 RD mentioned that this division was involved in the siege of the Kowno (13-18 Aug).

I'm confused now :o

"251 Divisions" is notoriously unreliable. I got rid of my copy!

3. Reserve-Division did in fact fight at Wilna as did the following:

Genkdo I. Armeekorps
Genkdo III. Reservekorps
HKK 6
2. Infanterie-Division
3. Reserve-Division
4. Garde-Infanterie-Division
10. Landwehr-Divison
14. Landwehr-Divison
58. Infanterie-Division
75. Reserve-Division
76. Reserve-Division
77. Reserve-Division
87. Infanterie-Division
89. Infanterie-Division
115. Infanterie-Division
Landwehr-Division Königsberg
bayr. Kavallerie-Division
1. Kavallerie-Division
3. Kavallerie-Division
4. Kavallerie-Division
9. Kavallerie-Division
6. Landwehr-Brigade

gem. Garde-Kavallerie-Brigade

Ldst.-Infanterie-Regiment 19
Feldartillerie-Regiment 219
Feldartillerie-Regiment 223

Could you tell me in what battles 3 RD was involved in 1915?
Or maybe you know where can I find such kind of information?

Do you know if there was something like "Regimentsgeschichte" of this division?

Glenn,

What source are you using? I could certainly use a handy source that could answer questions such as this. What you think is best?

Joe

a wonderful overview of divisional orders of battle and deployments is to be found in Deutschlands Schirm und Wehr im alten und im neuen Heer, published in 1929.

A very comprehensive engagement calender produced by the Großer Generalstab in 1919 is titled Die Schlachten und Gefechte des Großen Krieges 1914-1918. This basically lists which units were credited with which engagement chronologically throughout the war.

I'll post a couple of sample pages shortly.

As usual thank you so much! I have made contact with my German supplier to find these two books. After I digest them I may be back with more questions–these do seem to be something that I need very much. Thanks again.

While time ago I was looking for information about the Wilna battle and I found that the 3 RD was a part of XXXX Reserve Korps under the command of Karl Litzmann.

According to the information from Glenn the XXXX Reserve Korps was one of the group involved in the siege of the Kovno. I was wondering when the 3 RD was transferred to the XXXX Res. Korps ??

As I mentioned before the "Histories of Two Hundred and Fifty-One Divisions of the German Army which Participated in the War (1914-1918)" described that the 3 RD was involved in the siege of Kovno

Could somebody help me with that?
Or suggest where can I find information which divisions were in the XXXX Reserve Corps in the beginning of August 1915.
It seems that the 3RD in the beginning of August was engaged in the Narew - Bobr battle but probably after the capture of Wizna (10 - 12 August) was transferred to the XXXX Reservekorps and took part in the battle of Kovno - this is just my guess.
