Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked the pgae on Njoya's army on my website at http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. You might also like this other page of other African leaders and their private armies, including Stuka's profile pic which is of the King of Mankong taken in the 1920s...

Hey Chris, thanks for the extra info! And sorry for not recognizing your work, and giving you the credit!!
I'll be back with some more African extravagant uniforms in a while! (if you don't know them yet!)

No problem, glad you found it intertesting. Most of my information and photos came from the excellent study "African Crossroads: Intersections between History and Anthropology in Cameroon"...

Cheers

It is about presidential guards uniforms in 1961. It is in French, but the pic's will tell you too......

This is really fascinating stuff. I know that other African Royal leaders tried to follow European examples. This was certainly true in Ethiopia where sun helmets and European style uniforms were used, and in Madagascar as well.

The King of Siam followed British uniform patterns, and this is evident today in Thailand, where they were tall faux bearskin caps, plastic sun helmets and other spiked helmets.

They look cool too. I must say if I had my own personal bodyguard I'd get them to dress up like that too!

Cheers
