Kriegsmarine Pickelhaube!!!

Hi folks,

just visited the Royal Armouries in Leeds today. Fantastic displays of everything from mediaeval armour to modern police equipment and everything in between. However, the one imperial German piece of headgear I encountered left me bemused and amused. Let me show you the ultra-rare "German" infantry pickelhaube of the variant issued to the Kriegsmarine (sic). Apologies for the quality of the picture. The lighting was not great and I only had the IPAD. The caption states:

"Infantry Helmet (Pickelhaube) Model 1893

The German infantry helmet at the outbreak of the War was the leather Pickelhaube which offered little protection against shrapnel. Rather than the famous spike, this version has a ball finial and is of the type issued to the German navy (Kriegsmarine)". #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

Somebody having a bad day! Notwithstanding that, the Royal Armouries is a fantastic place to visit.

Regards
Glenn

Did you point out the mistake to anybody there? A few mislabeled 'haube in the French Army Museum (Paris), but all I got was lip when I told them they were mis-identified.
