Kube auction May 17

A very short report on the Kube Auction May 17.
I collect shoulder straps with a special interest in the rank of
Officer Stellvertreter
Kube Lot 906 was a pair of Saxon Garde Reiter Officer S / T should straps
the only pair that I had ever seen
so I bid ;
I was blown out of the water
I bid 550 E
then 700 E
next 1,000 E
they sold to a phone bidder for 1,500 Euro
to me 1,500 Euro is a crazy high bid
+25% = 1,875 Euro
then with the current exchange rate the pair
would cost $ 2,093.00 U S Dollars
and that don't count the $55.00 bank fee to wire Kube the money
and then the shipping charges by Kube
Someone wanted them badly

I guess if these are made of unobtainium then prices can get pretty inflated if there are competing motivated buyers at auction. They are quite beautiful.

I bought a couple of Pickelhaubes which for the most part were fairly reasonable given how auction prices can get.

Generally, such prices appear when two auctioners really want the item. If such another shoulder straps is offered in auction, I guess the final price would be lower.

I like the way Steve goes into Auctions I have a very similar approach.

Just think of the price you would like to pay including fees and shipping bid that amount and walk away.

I will admit that I prefer getting blown out of the water rather than getting out bid by 1 or 2 dollar.

Thanks for the short update Steve. I find it amazing that you have an ally in the Kube auction room that can bid for you in real time . I dutifully have mailed my paper bid sheet to him for 40 years . Sometimes they even arrived on time! On the bright side I think about all the money I have saved because I am not in a bidding war with the wealthy guys in the room (or on the phone). I just wait to see if I won anything , as in the last auction #148. It took the arrival of the Auction Catalog #149 to see the result list ( win one- lost one big time) since I never received an invoice from him. Herr Kube did email me the day after to say pay up!
He also, in the email, acknowledged that he received my bids for #149 in time. I think I will email him Wednesday to see if won anything perhaps that would speed the process.
