KÜRASSIERE OR JÄGER ZU PFERDE?

Hi,

Someone told me that the cavalrymen shown on this photo were Jäger zu Pferde instead of Cuirassiers. I am sure that these men are Cuirassiers. I base my opinion on the difference between the stand-up collar of the M1910 feldgrau tunic of the Cuirassier and the one of the M1910 feldgrau tunic of the Jäger zu Pferde. The Jäger collar was light-green not feldgrau as for the Cuirassiers. What do you think?

Given the similarities between the two uniforms it's often hard to tell, unless your field of expertise is the cavalry in which case a mere glance is all that is required (right Marshall?).

My money is on them being Cuirassiers.

Kürassiere have a white piping an their caps. This here looks not white.
What about the Königlich Sächsisches Karabiner-Regiment (2. Schweres Regiment) from Borna?
Like this one. Shoulderboards without number or chiffre with black piping. The piping on their caps was kornblumenblau.

Kuerassier,

Your observation is quite right. Now, I think that the men with the black cap band are from the regiment you said. Regarding the two cavalrymen with the pale cap band, perhaps they are from the Kgl. Sächs. Garde-Reiter-Regiment (1. Schweres Regiment) (Dresden). Like these two men: the piping on the feldgrau caps was cornflower blue and the cap band was white.

Hi,

As a friend told me, the two men in the front have camo bands on their caps. So, these guys are surely from the Kgl. Sächs. Karabiner-Regiment (2. Schweres Regiment) (Borna).

Richard
:)

Hey Richard, I just saw this thread, and I agree that the lighter cap bands are camo bands, as the State Kockarden are not visible.
Best

Hey Gus,

You're quit right. This is the observation which confirms that the lighter cap bands are camo bands.

Best,

Richard
