Kurrassier...just rusted? its an odd color

What do the fine people of this forum have to say about this?

It has a JzP eagle on it, so that would make me suspect that it is a parts helmet in other areas as well, such as perhaps, a replaced liner (chin strap... ?). But yes, surface rust.

Yes, except brass / gilt brass. I think even the most knowledgeable of us here would say there's always more to learn. You've come to the right place. Take a look at the Kuerassier section if you're interested in that type of helmet. A lot of good helmets to look at there... and drool over.... :wink:

Yes the kurassier use the typical Prussian "line eagle" as shown on Ron's avatar although that one is in white metal. The plate on the helmet you posted belongs on a Jager zu Pherde helmet which is a metal lobster tail like this one but with a "stepped visor". Your helmet is from a kurassier regiment, not JzP.
