Just in today
I am very pleased to add this L G H R e m issue helmet
to my collection
A few words about the background of this helmet
It can be traced back to the early pioneer collectors
of the San Francisco, Calif . area.
Back to the 1950's and 60's
Norm Hobson ; Bjorn Olson and Bill Stevens
In the 1970's Eric Johansson formed a group
of I G collectors and published a newsletter with photos
I was member # 32
Then circa Eric put out a book on spiked helmets
published by The House of Swords
Most all of the helmets shown in the book
were from the collections of these West coast collectors.
The Garde H R that I just got in is shown in Eric's book
on page 98
I have seen photos of these early collections and
this helmet came from the Bill Stevens collection.
It will go well with my private purchase Garde H R

While on the subject of the L G H R
It is the only regiment that I know of
where the enlisted helmet front plate is gilt color
while the officers helmet front plate is silver.
Do any of our members know the reason
or story why this is ?
Thanks

Congrats on a great busby! I was IGMCA #901. Lots of great articles and references, many illustrations by Chip Minx.
Cheers,
Dennis

Congratulations. Very nice Pelzmütze.
-I have this book from Jean-Louis Larcade's archive. Auction of January 2023. Nevers-France.

Thanks for sharing, superb Kolpak.
And I can only recommend the excellent book by Eric Montant and Co. It's a modern book, with lots of colour photos, and the French text can now be translated using the ‘translators’ on the Net.

Hello Steve,

Correct!!!
The silver Garde-Star with enamel decoration is normal for LGHR officers (ditto for GJB, GMGA, G troupe techniques etc....=)
What's unique, however, is the golden brass star-guard for enlisted and Extra-Pelzmütze (Colback in France) Eigentum for one-year contract or senior non-commissioned officer known as portepee. . Logically, it should also be silver, as in the other units wearing this Star-Guard.
An exception, regulatory good, that i can't explain at the moment.

Congratulations Steve! It’s always nice to obtain published helmets.
Most of my Third Reich helmets are published or come from friends. From friends by far is the best. Beautiful Pelzmütze. Years ago I wondered if that Garde Pelzmütze on p.98 had the proper Garde Fangschnur?

Completely Messing is correct! See Paul Pietsch. Uniformenkunde Das deutsche Heer; I; Textband. Page 144.
Here in J.L. Larcade Volume II; page 58.

Yes, yes, confirmed in Lainé, too. Never seen a enlisted Pelzmütze GLHR with a silver star.

So far no one has been able to say why gilt for enlisted ; silver for officers
thank you for your reply

As you see it does not have the special drop
I think that it is a later example and I wonder if by then
they issued the drop because by then
there were no parades ?
As you see my prewar private purchase does have the complete Fangschnur
I will send you a photo
Steve
