Landsturm collar devices

I've recently come across some upside down examples of the AK (Roman) numerals in some pictures of Landsturmmänner. Can anyone tell me how they were affixed to the collar, sewn? pins?

Anyone actually come across some surviving examples?

Cheers in advance,

- Brett

You lucky Australian! What do you mean by some? Does that mean you have more than this one? I have no idea how they were attached but what a wonderful picture. The only thing like this I have ever owned is one where the helmet cover is put on upside down. You seem to have this hunting down!

This was the standard way to wear the insignia in the Southern Hemisphere, that way the insignia would be rightside up for the Kaiser.

:D ... you guys should come down here and see how funny everyone looks upside down. How you manage not to spill your beer is beyond me.

I have a couple of other examples of the upside down AK numbers somewhere, the fresh faced lad on the left of this group from L.I.B. XIII 22 'Ulm' is one:

When I locate the others I'll add them here. Meanwhile here's another out of the ordinary collar device - a "W" on the NCO in the centre.

These were normally affixed by prongs on the back of the device. Like most metal insignia, they were susceptible to getting caught on things and therefore were often tacked down with thread as well.
