Livgardet Swedish Pickelhaube?

Steglitz

Hello,

Just acquired a new Pickelhaube from Sweden which I beleive is associated with the Livgardet who guard the royal palaces in Stockholm.

Has anyone seen this model before and know when and where it would have been made?

Either way, very happy with this unique item.

Nice Swedish Pickelhaube, have had a few over the years. Not sure on the date, but many of these were German made.

These helmets were worn over a long period of time (pre and post WWI), and can generally be dated simply by the age and wear they exhibit. Yours looks like a c. 1900 example.

Nice one with the original pickle, this one is pre 1900 for sure. The model "Kask M/1887" (Swedish word for picklehaube) were used in the both royal Svea & Göta infantry life guards (livgardet) here in Sweden by the time, this one is for the NCO foot soldier.

BTW the cockade is sitting on the wrong side on the haube, it should be on the the right side of the helmet

The national army museum has a remarkable collection of headdress from the 19th century to 20th. Scroll down on this page and over to the next page and you will see them. Also use the search term Kask. They have German, Danish and many others lots of various kinds of cavalry helmets, shakos etc. Really fascinating to look at.
