Is this the rarest Überzug ever or not?

I do not think this is the rarest. It is hard on my old brain cells to see the prices that these command, eventhough they are not often seen for sale. But then I have way more than that into a stinky gas hood. Collectors are a very sick people, I think we could even get official recognition with the US disabilities act, and be allowed to park inthe handycapped parking.

Authentic or not, it's still hard to believe such a simple piece of dirty old cloth with no design or motifs whatsoever is already at $821 with a reserve not met... I wouldn't mind owning one but not at this price. I paid less for my 1.2x2m Reichskriegsflagge! Although not as rare, it is by far nicer to look at and display.

Looks original to me.....How do you fake those rust spots on the side caused by the large cavalry style kokarde or the tear in the material on the underside? Obviously the seller had dollar signs in his eyes if $800+ did not sell it.

It's easy to fake the rust spots, the tears and the worn look.
And I really don't like the stuff stamped "DRP".
But that's my opinion.

Regards,

I actually used to own this cover. I bought it out of France. I did kinda stink and the plastic reinforcement and old elastic seemed darn hard to fake. It also had extra brass clips added-looked period. Seemed genuine but it was not an "attic find" as is claimed in the ad. That is certainly suspect. Chris

I saw the piece at the S.O.S. back in February, looking at it w/Tony Cowan.

It was chewed up a bit on one side as I recall, and not in perfect condition.

It appeared to be a real one to me, in my limited experience & opinion.

All the Best,

Alan
