The wappen looks great! The helmet body not so much...Guessing it doesn't belong on that haube. The seller states slightly misshapen :-? ahh you can see right through the holes in the top of the base. Sheesh!

Hey Max, this is a scrapper M95 helmet with a very rare and expensive officer helmet plate on it so it will go for big bucks. The officer wappen comes from Infantry Regt #88. The Nassauisches Inf Regt, only this Regt wore this plate and it has on it battle honours won by the regiment during the Napoleonic wars. Very rare and highly collectable! Brian

I noticed the plate does not than the Mit.Gott.Fur Koenig Und Vaterland motto. I couldn't find an example in my ref books, But I only have a few, I know I need to get better ones, Any of the ones I really want are soo pricey. I wonder what the final price of this helmet is going to hit?

Watching closely, a rare plate indeed.

Here is a couple shots of my 88, one of the first Haubes I ever got years ago.

Well marked :D

That is a very sweet helme James, gotta love those 88 markings! You are very lucky to have that one. I do not have a single bandeau helme in my collection. Max we call these added battle honours..bandeaus. So this wappen has 4 bandeau on it. They always sell for big money due to the rarity...so few regiments were given them by the Kaiser! By the way, my JR 95 has the motto Mit Gott fur Fuerst und Vaterland on it (prince) rather than Koenig. Only a few regts have these fuerst mottos and always with an additional white metal coat of arms badge atatched to the bird. Brian

Max, the reason why the motto is missing is because this is a reserve plate. As Brian wrote, plates with "bandeaux" (French for scrolls; commonly used although "banderoles" should be more appropriate) are very desirable. I would not get so excited about this helmet though. After all it is only a crappy M95 with a wrong plate attached, even though this plate is rare and nice. As a rule I do not collect plates, as I find it more frustrating to have just the plate than nothing at all... Therefore I would only go for the whole hat. I made only one exception in 20 years of collecting. But of course this is only my opinion and I understand that others enjoy collecting plates.

This guy is not a friend of european collectors... He wants $ 200,- for the UPS delivery to Europe...
:violent1:
Only one word comes to my mind: CRAZY :banghead:
Philippe

Most of these bandeaux are an honor granted to units that fought on the British side of a struggle such as Waterloo. This regiment however is a real exception because the bottom two bandeaux represent battles where the regiment fought with the French army, in the peninsula, in 1809, against the Spanish! Trivia of the day. :happy11: :happy11: :happy11:

From Champagne's chalk...

An officer's

And you can see, Pickel on Ebay is Mannschaft, with an Officer's Landwehr eagle.

Spare your money !

Joe is right (as usual)! And "La Belle Alliance" was the name of a farm on the Waterloo battlefield, if I remember correctly.
