Hi,

Currently on sale at Lilitaria Online, this M 1857 helmet.

It looks very good in an excellent overall condition.
The question is: is this kind of chinscales usual/normal on this helmet?
In my opinion, these are trooper ones and not officer ones. So for an NCO?.....

Hi Eric, you may be correct regarding these chin scales, but I have found that on these older pre 1895 helmets the chin scales are much thicker and heavier than we normally find after 1891. The helmet shell is higher, the leather is thicker and heavier.....in my humble opinion I would not worry about the chin scales, I believe that they are original to the helmet. This is a very nice piece! Brian
