Today I bought a Jäger Tschako, from a fellow collector I know.
Liner is suffering from dry-rot, but the outside is beautiful..
More pictures will be posted in the Tschako section here.

It is a size 55,5, and other than a makersstamp in an oval, there are no markings, except for some pencil writing inside.

Thanks for looking at it, have a nice sunday.

Greetings, Coert :)

Nice example, sure is on the outside and on the plate
Not so sure the chinstrap is original but i guess 40%of the chinstraps we come acoss are reproduction ,one cant have it all

Nicely done coert

Jonas

Thanks gentlemen,

I am also not sure about the strap, but indeed many straps on helmets are replaced.
But just could not let it go because of the nice finish on it.

Greetings, Coert :)

Jonas, Coert, could you please explain why do you think the chinstrap is a replacement? Is it because the color isn‘t as black as the Helmet?
I don‘t see reasons to complain it and I‘d like to learn what hints I have to pay attention to.
Thanks Gentlemen :)

Well Sandy, the buckles and Knopf91 mountingbrackets are painted black, really they should be grey, for an M15.
But then again, differences can occur of course. The leather looks old, so I'm not sure on this one.
It can be legit, or an old copy.

Thanks Pickelhauben!

I was nearly 80/20 sure the strap was a reproduction but had some doubts about the feldzeichen becose if you compaire it with those last pictures ,it looks kinda fluffy the feldzeichen on your tchako coert
Finding a feldseichen will be a challenge i guess

Jonas

Thanks for your reply Bruno,

I was not sure about the feldzeichen also, but this sunday I will visit the seller again,
he has 2 other Tschako's for sale, in lesser condition but also complete with straps and feldzeichen.
I'll bring the ones I have and make a deal with him.
I know the guy so will see how it goes.

Greetings, Coert :)

A nice piece indeed but I had doubts about that feldzeichen as well....too fluffy as has been said. It is hand stitched around the back instead of the front, it is not like any original I have seen.

Thank you all for your explanations.
It‘s still not easy for me to see all these details by looking at the pictures and I‘m grateful to learn from all of you :bravo:

I would question the Feldzeichen, but I wouldn't be too hasty in condemning the chinstrap.
I didn't notice that the metal fittings had been painted black. I'm still not sure that I see that in the photographs.
Here is mine and the chinstrap is original. Notice how some of the gray paint still remains on the chinstrap fittings.
None of the other gray metal fittings are painted.

I did notice something in some of the photos posted: There appears to be stitching around the outside edge of the rear neck guard on some of these helmets. Mine does not have that.

John :)

I've seen black fittings on some steel helmet straps, which is what this strap may been, as it appears to be a little long for this piece. The marks on the rear visors are impression made by a tooth wheel, leather workers will use this tool to either mark a piece for stitching or as a form of reinforcement to an edge. None of my shakos have it, it may just be a maker's thing.

Thanks for everybody's views on this Tschako, it is my first one, and I really did not know enough about them, clearly.
I saw these marks on the rear visor on Bruno's pictures, mine also has them.
Thanks also about the strap, I just fitted it to my M16 I have, which does not have a strap, it fits perfectly!

I learn a lot here on the forum, thanks for that.
Next sunday, as said before I will swap the Feldzeichen, and look for a strap that fits correctly, a period M15.
Maybe I'll swap it also, but will see next sunday.

Thanks! Coert :)

Hello everybody,

Today I swapped the feldzeichen for another one, which is not fluffy and looks older than the one before.
I also have a M15 strap on it now, but kept the old one, which is on my M16 now. The strap also looks to be a bit too long,
but it looks better now I think.

Greetings, Coert :)

Yup thats mutch mutch better that changement de decor
Congrats on the update of your tshako

Jonas

Thanks for the help and the nice comments on my Tschako gentlemen!
I am more happy now it looks the way it should.
