M15 shako

Congratulations Will on this shako that your parents found in MN! That's great!

And the chinstrap from Amy looks very nice on it as well.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Does anyone happen to have a spare field badge that they would be interested in selling?

Nice job.

When I fix mine I use Aleene's Leather and Suede Glue. Hard to see when it dries. I have done both direct end to end and with a backing (using old original leather from an old liner).

Skipper greenwade makes these, they are very nice products for a fair price. I would highly suggest googling his name and his website will pop up.

I have used Skip for years when I had my SS collection and now for Pickelhaubes. I have some extras if anyone would like some as they do not fit into my display cabinet in my new house. (free of course, just send me a DM).

Id like to see some repairs. Ive never tried to make a repair before.
What kind of repairs? Like visor stitching, patch work in shells, the repair of straps? I dont have many photos of work in progress, just before and after.

For strap or liner finger repair, I also use Alene’s glue. Instead of a leather backing to reinforce the joint, I use a thin piece non-stretchy of densely woven cotton cloth, brown or black to fit the situation. It doesn’t stand out as much as leather.

Thats not a bad idea either, I happened to have some leather strands that matched the age and wear of the chinstrap so it blends in fairly well in this case.
