Has anybody seen a 1915 Tschapka mortarboard with the top piece damaged or missing?
I'm curious about what's inside along the upper edge where the flat top is flanged.
It looks like there would be some sort of frame to serve as a spacer between the "funnel" and the square metal top.
Some tops seem to have a thicker "board" than others, depending on the manufacturer, but the ones I've examined are all the "thin" top kind and I can't get a mirror in there to see anything.
