M17 Stalhelm with Camouflage

Hi Ron, You know steel helmets are my bag! Very nice specimen. I like the regulation camo colors and the nicely executed pattern. It's great that you were able to find an original replacement chinstrap. These are hard to lay hands on! I can't tell what's going on with the liner draw string. It looks like somebody may have tied the pad strings together. If this is the case, you might undo this post-war modification. I agree with what others have said about just leaving the helmet alone, but keep it in a humidity controlled environment.

The chinstrap on the other helmet in your photo is unusual. It looks like a field depot replacement of some sort - maybe Austro-Hungarian. I'd be interested to see better photos of that if you can manage.

Hello Mark!
The M17 camo helmet's draw string is complete however tied in a knot in order for it to stay in place as 4 of the 6 liner tips are torn:

As for the M95 chinstrap, I 'borrowed it' from my Bavarian M15 pickelhaube it came with so I still need to find a good M15 steel chinstrap for the latter.

As for the non-camo. M16 helmet, its liner is an aged replacement and has the thick liner retaining rivet misplaced--I've placed it at the back since the photoshoot. I also need to find a flat thin rivet to go on one of the sides instead of the (wrong) domed rivet which was at the back (just in case you'd have a good spare one?)
As for the (ersatz canvas or cloth) M15 chinstrap that came with it, the mystery still remains as to its authenticity as these are easier to fake than their leather counterparts: It looks properly hand stitched and doesn't glow under a black light, however... the grey metal parts aren't magnetic, so go figure!
