M1842 Pickelhaube

Hi everyone:

I have recently decided that my new pickelhaube desire is for a model 1842. Has anyone come across one that is intact, and does anyone know where I could purchase one? What do these things go for?

Welcome to the forum! Are you going to SOS? I think one has turned up annually in the last couple of years. James got one there. They are not common but I don't do prices well. Welcome again.

Thank you for the welcome! Unfortunately I will be unable to make the show of shows this year as I will be using my pre-deployment leave to visit a friend in Tucson, Arizona to learn a little more about restoration of American Indian Wars helmets...and conservation of pickelhauben. I hope to be back and able to make the show next year.

As always, watch your six on your deployment! Best of luck to you. You can also check out Weitz Militaria on line from Hamburg, Hermann Military Auctions from Munich (Muenchen). There's an idea, spend your leave at Edelweiss Lodge in Garmisch and hit Munich... some good shops (and beer... and food... and...) there. Price is very subjective, but I've seen 1842's in the $4,000 to $7,000 range. However, who knows what you'll find (they might be asking more or they might be asking... more).
