Hi All,

Still trying to source a Pickelhaube for my collection and after looking at so many bad examples i came across this one - M1895 I think?
Any chance of a few comments on the pictures below please. I’m aware I don’t have much knowledge in this area so would welcome some assistance.
From looking at examples over on KaisersBunker, it looks promising but I can’t find any examples with an exact matching Wappen though, the central feather between the eagles leg seems shorted than usual and a very detailed texture / pattern , but is this just down to differing manufacturers ?

The leather wedges are in tight, so don’t want to remove them unless really required.
Nothing glows under UV light (but I know that’s not always 100%)

I’ve taken loads of detail shots of the inside etc. so hopefully this may help
Thanks all…

Hi lugerfan,

Looks good to me. Shell clean inside and out, clean stitching and a nice 1914 marking :D I don't see anything strange with the Wappen, but the backside can help to determine originality. Cockades look ok too, but I've been fooled before by pictures :x . The chin strap buckles look a bit crude, but the leather looks original and so do the end pieces, so I'm guessing it's all original.

Congratulations :D

by looking to the pics and its little details like
inprints in leather from the parts and its securing rings
cracking of the skull
oxidation of brass rings
the inner seems to secure the tongs
and so on i would have no doubts on the originality
this is a good one for me
if you already have this one in your collection i would say
concrats and :bravo:

Hi all,

thanks for the positive comments, It was for sale in a shop many miles away from home, so I was a bit unsure in making the purchase without any reference material to hand. I'm in the UK and there seems to be a multitude of dodgy ones for sale where ever you go, so finding good honest examples to look at in the flesh is hard. I'd pretty much given up on feeling confident enough to buy one, so its great news that it seems good. The dealer did give a 100% money back guarantee if not happy, which was reassuring... Really appreciate all the help on this forum...

a few other comments...

I managed to peak behind the wappen where the shell has slightly shrunk and it looks like its correctly pressed, no nasty castings. but cant see as far as the solder joints.

sorry - No regiment issue marks.

There's a white residue on the wappen etc that can be seen in the photos from I presume years of polishing, any ideas should / how I can remove that without altering the patina ?

Any thoughts on the small bit of missing lacquer at the top ? is it best to fill it in somehow to prevent any further damage, or best left well alone?

Are there any hints on how to get better photos of the name and maker mark, I've tried fooling with photoshop, but haven't had much luck.

The dealer was told that the Pickelhaube was sourced in Finland and the previous owner felt may have come from a German volunteer there - The only German volunteer unit I've found so far was the 27th Jäger Battalion, but no evidence of any photos of them wearing this style of helmet, only Shakos so it all looks a bit flaky. If any one has any knowledge of this area please let me know - Not sure if this may explain the unreadable name seen below

Again - thanks for all the help, its a big hole closed up in my collection :)

A very nice original example of the classic M95 Prussian OR's pickelhaube in excellent condition. Congratulations! :thumb up:
