M1910 Kratzchen for review

Hi all,

I have been trying to track down a decent WW1 German cap to add to the collection, any chance of an opinion on this one please. Not sure on the printed markings inside, Rgt.89 seems a little odd?

There are red and black felt pads behind the cockades, which I think is a good sign?

Thanks for any comments

I only own one of these and I am no expert on them. However, I have never seen one with kokarde stitching done horizontally, it is always vertical. The feldgrau cloth overall looks too fuzzy to me but again, I am no expert, this is just my impression from what I see. To me this is a re enactor piece....modern. Plus that "Regt 89"..... I have never seen any original Imperial German items marked like that. Last, no sweat stains on the liner.

thanks for the feedback, pretty sure it was a repro or re enactor. The seller had an excellent returns policy, so it was a useful lesson. Onwards and upwards in the search for a good one.. cheers

The problem with one you posted is the liner. I can solve your problem.

Here are three textbook originals. I will sell you one of these if you wish. $475 USD each + postage.

Oh no! You are selling three killer caps from your collection and I'm flat broke?? ](*,)

Field grey caps like this are impossible to find!

The horizontal vs vertical argument comes up often, but I do not buy into that. All of the caps I have owned have had the Kockarden sewn on vertically, but looking at Tony's photos, two of the three offered here have the Kockarden sewn on horizontally.

The original cap posted in this thread is a fake. The maker marking has been copied from an original cap and a rubber stamp made. l had posted many of my issue caps on other websites and found to my dismay that all of the nice markings were being lifted and used to make reproductions. I had a talk with the seller/maker and he agreed to stop using the stamps he made from my caps, but anyone could do this. It's very disheartening. Carl Bangert was a legitimate period maker and I have a cap made by him, though the style of this stamp is different than the one in my cap. The regimental stamp is completely wrong.
