Well here is my latest and greatest....Its quite rough and was badly crushed when I picked it up via postal bid in an auction,price was OK, not a gift by any means but not unrealistically high either.I have had it resting on a milliners block to try and bring the shape back to the helmet.
I added a new visor trim as the original was split which didn't help with the shape of the helmet at all and need to glue a patch to the inside of the shell where it has split around the left hand side chin strap post.
As you can see the eagle has sustained an injury at some stage...if you happen to have a damaged helmet plate I could use to repair this one please let me know?? It would be nice to get things looking right again!

You can try to remove the rust from the metal parts with 'EVAPORUST' provided it's available down under!
But don't keep it soaked in the liquid for too long as otherwise it would also remove the gray coating; see here for more: EVAPORUST.
 
Not a lot in the way of markings,It has a size stamp in the rear skirt "56" and a makers stamp which I very faint and unreadable,beautiful written name to liner and inside of helmet skull,I cant make out what it says.Here are a few pics,I tried to edit them to bring out the writing/stamps but havent improved them much
Ron we have evaporust here,its good stuff but I think I will leave this one alone for now, maybe just give it a light touch of oil (on the rust)and if I can find another damaged helmet plate repair the broken limb!

It's hard to tell, but the name may be of the person who had the helmet as a keepsake, rather than the artilleryman. ? Just a thought.

Okay, somebody who knows more about German history needs to help me here. Koeln (I don't have an umlaut), being spelled with a C? I can't find a Coeln in Germany, or is that a Koelsch spelling?
