Hi

To give more substance to the discussion, here is one of my 1867 plates, totally naked, to show the tails:

And the same plate, but dressed!

(Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures.....)

Anyway, as far as I have learned from Tony, the normal regulation for 1867 plate would be: a long tail, a short tail, a long tail (or plume,...it means: short-long-short contrary to a 1871 or 1895 plate on which it is 3 times short). I hope it is clear????

To conclude, the second plate of KAGRR 1870 looks like the obverse of a 1871 plate, but with a 1867 type reverse.

Best regards

Eric

Very interesting Bernard and Eric. The first one is the standard M67 eagle Wappen, with the long tail feathers, but the second one is a standard M871 Foot-Troops eagle Wappen. This second pattern with the VVV tail feathers, will always be found on post-1871 helmets. I have seen three Oldenberg Wappens that appear to be M71 eagles with M67 sliders on them. I had to assume that Oldenberg acquired some M67 helmets from Preußen without eagle Wappens, and then bought Oldenberg eagle Wappens (by now the M71 pattern with the VVV tail feathers) and had them made to fit their M67 helmets. This could also be the case for your Preußen M1871 pattern with M67 sliders. Perhaps?

Yes, it would be an explanation. So it would be a transitional and local development.

Hi

To come back with new elements:

Left: a M67 Prussian plate: V I V

Center : a M71 Oldenbourg Plate VVV

Right: a M67 Oldenbourg Plate: VVV

Close up of the M67 Oldenbourg

Here comparison with M71 plates:

Left: a M71 Oldenbourg Plate VVV

Center : a M67 Oldenbourg plate: VVV

Right: a M71 Prussian Plate: VVVV

All plates are genuine .... !!!!

Hello
To come back with this topic
I can say that I have seen several M67 helmet with this "M67-71" wappen
So, to see if the wappen is originaly with sliders or screws we can see the welding location
In fact this are always in the same place (see pics and compare with your wappen)
To keep the same place of the wappen on the helmet the sliders was to be welded higher than screws, so it is not possible to change one M71 wappen to M67.
Well, transitional wappen or late M67 pattern ??? Personally I incline for the second hypothesis ....... :-k
