M89/97 Tschapka for Garde Ulanen Regt Nr. 2

Hello Adler, hello to all,

First of all, all my congratulations for this magnificent Tschapka, it is really a very beautiful one!
I really like these personal purchase models, both for their refinement and for the variety of the multiple whims which they contain.
For my part, I also possess one of these models in my collection but with a particular variant because the cocarde is of the officier type, the eagle and the star is correct for EM, the shell and the liner are correct with the officiers models and the Feldzeichen is made with a braided white fuse.
I admit not to be any more really there. Who is authorized to wear officer's eagle, who is authorized to wear officer's cocarde and Feldzeichen, what means a Feldzeichen with outline in braided thread?
I saw very numerous variants and of very numerous combinations among which, recently and twice on personal purchase Tschapkas for 2. GUR, an eagle of EM type with nevertheless the crown hollowed out as for officers' models.
Very intersting subjet, isn't?

To my knowledge everything is allowed to be upgraded by officers style, except Kokarden, Feldzeichen, Rabatten and Fangschnur...

It looks like the Kokarde is Uffz. mit Portepee style and not Off. model. Then everything would be correct... Do you have a better pic of the Kokarde?

Adler

Dear Adler,

Sorry but my collection is not actually at home, so I can not provide you a better picture. I believe that is a model for an Unter-Offizier student.

Karel, I believe the corded Feldzeichen has nothing to do with rank, but is simply a private purchase item bought by the soldier. I have scores of photos of Ulanen, Husaren, Jäger, etc who are clearly the lowest rank, and wearing issued helmets (M91 posts visible) but they have added on this ribbed Feldzeichen for the photo. So it would not surprise me if these corded Feldzeichen were available in the unit canteen and added onto the helmets by the soldiers when they were off the Kaserne.

I agree 100% with you Tony, but I was referring to the Kokarde and not the Feldzeichen... On my screen it was not clearly visible wether it's Offz. or Uffz. mit Portepee...
Great picture Joe!

From the same GUR2 regiment, here is an early 1915 enlisted model with detachable metal mortarboard:

Check out item 113H7 of this site:

It has an officer's field badge with an enlisted man's cockade.
