Well I purchased a early Christmas gift for myself, could not pass up this nice M95 Baden 109 OR helmet that came my way. Complete helmet in very good shape, slight shrapnel damage to bottom of wappen that continued on side of helmet. Otherwise very nice.

I wanted to show it next to my M1871-1891 Baden 108 OR with plume so you could see some of the differences, such as lack of back spine vent which came in 1895 as well as Pearl ring on spike base. Early helmet has wappen held on with screw back and nuts, while the later helmet has standard loops and leather tabs.

Older helmet is marked 1888 on inside back visor, neither has regimental markings...

Very nice 109 .

I have one as well and it has somewhat of a history.

I got mine from a collector who had to liquidate because of a divorce .

It had the front bill ripped off in our haste to evacuate during Katrina years ago and I have never fixed it.

Seems too be a bit of bad luck that one. ( my 109 )

Is this one of these wartime produced IR109 helmets, with just the BAXVIII stamp on the rear bill?

Bruno- thanks for making me take a closer look, there is a very faint marking on back inside visor, and in just the right light you can make out the 109, so it is unit marked!!!

I am struggling to get my camera to pick up any trace of the marking, no luck yet..

The one with the plume is the eye catcher in my opinion
Makes it somewhat appealing

Peter, I side with Tony. It's probably a simple matter of taste: those hairy monstrosities never managed to capture my interest. They're (literally - grin!) over the top. It's very vulgar to flaunt one's bush :P
 
Congrats James, very nice! I have been lusting after one for years as well. The closest I ever came was that JR 109 wappen at the SOS 2 years ago....but $600US was beyond the budget. :(
