Congratulations Ed on this great looking felt helmet!
First time that I have seen one with a Dragoon/JzP wappen.
Is the wappen made from steel with a pewter wartime finish? Or is the wappen made of neusilber with a dark patina? I cannot tell which material the wappen is made from after viewing your excellent photos.

Alan, the wappen is neusilber with a dark patina.
The inside of the eagle is still silver but I don’t want to take the wappen of the helmet, coz one nut does not come lose with the force of my fingers.

The maker's stamp reads " B. Perl Jr. Nachfolger Breslau". Perl was a hatter in Breslau and the "Nachfolger" (successor) was an Austrian by the name of Franz Schneiderhan who took over Perl Jr's straw and felt hat business in 1907.

Maybe , but I think this is just patina because the spike is M95 not M15.
As far as I know the M95 felt was always worn with cover, so no need to darken the fittings.
