After 15 years looking for a good one, I finally was able to acquire this M95 Mecklemburg-Schwerin pickelhaube...
As you all know of course, this is a rare helmet that one does not encounter that often. The Grand Duchy had only a few infantry regiments...
Großherzoglich Mecklenburgisches Grenadier-Regt. Nr.89
Großherzoglich Mecklenburgisches Grenadier-Regt. Nr.89
Großherzoglich Mecklenburgisches Füsilier-Regt. Nr.90
Anyway, I was as pleased with my purchase as a child getting a new toy from Santa...
Here are the pics:

Congratulations! That seems to be in perfect shape compared to mine. What a great find.

One interesting point in comparing the two is that my cockade blue has the same kind of coloring differences as some of the Braunschweig blue.

Thank you very much gentlemen! I'm pleased to see you also like this one!

Joe, don't you think that it might be just a discoloration or maybe a variation depending on the maker? I think your helmet just has seen some more sunlight than mine...

I see your "garden" is still prolific !
Mushroom time... yeah!

Argh indeed...

Amazing!! Great helmet and great condition! :o

Mecklemburg wappens are very distinct, they don't really look like any others, I guess a little close to the Saxon wappens. Is there such a thing as a later model Mecklemburg wappen with more of a bulged look? Like the later Saxon wappens that are very bulged?

It certainly could be. I just think it's curious – I really wonder if maybe different makers used different colors of blue :-k :-k but it could be dirt or sunlight or some sort of a fading. some of the references Have differences in the color also. They are either dark or very light. Don't know if we will ever chase this down.

I think most officers had at least two helmets; one for field / duty and another for parade / special occasion. Who knows? Maybe another for rainy days! I wonder if the fading might be from field use? I also wonder how much a cockade faded during use, but yes, interesting and part of what makes this hobby fun. You both have a helmet that's on my 'to get' list, so very well done to both of you.

I think it's great that you 'held off' for fifteen years until you found just what you wanted. Not many of us have that much fortitude!
