This rare birdie flew in last week, I dropped everything I had in my hands and managed to catch it... A pickelhaube M95 Off. Oldenburg Infanterie Regt. 91...
The Grand Duchy of Oldenburg had only infantry regiment. It was the Oldenburgisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr 91. The regiment was raised in 1813.

Excellent! May I ask is the crown voided only on officer helmets (and on all officer helmets) or is this more a private purchase option? Of course officers mostly had private purchase so the question may be pointless anyway..

Thank you very much gentlemen!

I think you answered the question already yourself Robert. It was indeed officially only for officers, but you can see this also on other private purchase helmets as from a Einj. Freiwilliger, Unter-Officier,...

Here is some useless trivia. The reason this grand duchy uses a plate with King on it instead of Furst is because of the unique differences in their military convention with Prussia. It was timing and their lack of concern rather than any specific reason.

An excellent helmet. One observation, except for the M15 version Oldenburg helmets seem to come up for sale more often than any of the other dutchies. At least in my experience as a collector. Again congratulations on an excellent helmet!. Brian

Thanks for the replies men!

This one is the first one for sale that came in my direction Brian... :headbang:

Isn't it a treat to see a helmet with all the gilding intact? So nice to see the low areas between the feathers polished like that. Amazing attention to detail, and a superb example.

Gelukwens Karel!

Good observation T...you are right as usual such fine detail and crispness to the wappen. Beautiful gilding, the only pieces that I encounter here that compare are the Victorian helmet plates on British home service helmets. Brian
