The body/shell has a few minor compression cracks around the edge, however; remains in very good-excellent condition for a 100+ year old felt ersatz helmet. There are no extra holes for placement of the wappen and the leather tabs also appear original. Both kokardes are original. There is an old piece of German newspaper stuffed into the ball spike base. There is writing inside the rear neck guard/visor. I can make out Soissons. There is also a name and other writings that may be deciphered with a little work.

After reading the comments on the rolled edge felts here and in Johan's latest books vol 7 and the Bambus connection I couldn't resist having a look at mine. I bought it over 20 years ago and it's in such mint condition I haven't had it off the helmet stand in a long long time.

Anyway, there it was. (y)(y) Love the information sharing and that Artillery felt, if you ever want to part with it ;)
