Manouver helmet

I saw this real nice example on an auction website. I tought I´d post it here FYI because the other forum is restricted to Ebay auctions. But ohh $$ €€!

They write that the fittings are carved of wood (even the cocards), the helmet body is made of cork.

This helmet was at SOS 06. The owner wanted $7,000 for it then and did not sell. It subsequently was listed on a Kube auction -- -- it did not sell for about $4000 -- $4500.

It is perfectly legitimate. I handled it and took pictures of it. This is the second maneuver helmet that I have played with. They are both similar but this one has a bandeaux on the Wappen. The maker's mark is on our list and is in fact a photograph of the maker's mark on this very helmet.

I would love to own it but it is not worth the cost to me. Very lightweight with a body of cork. I am not sure if the Wappen is really made of wood. My understanding was that they were made of papier-mâché.

The owner had almost a dozen relatively rare helmets at SOS 06. I fell in love with a 94th that after careful scrutiny turned out to be fake. Absolutely fooled me for a while. The 94th helmet turned up on Kube and was removed from the auction by Kube when Kaiser Bill questioned the authenticity based on things we had found at SOS. Upon close examination Kube also saw the problem. Fooled him too for a while.

Personally, I'd rather have a Dragoner officer's Pickelhuabe, Waffenrock, and Schirmmütze for the same price. But, that's just me.
