I don't think so.

The color sections seem to be reversed from what most reference books show, plus it's fuzzy, the wire loop is mounted off-center a bit...and the cross isn't even cut straight. As I understand it, the cross should be overlaid soutache/braid, too, with a border around the colored section.

The color panels of this ebay "special" actually match the reference I have, that is, the upper left and lower right quadrants are red. The reference is "Uniformkunde Das Deutsche Heer" by Knotel, Pietsch, u. Collas, Band III, Table 179. Nothing else about this field badge looks right, however. You are correct in that the red and blue panels should be separated by overlaying yellow (Gelb) soutache braid in a "cross", and the panels are completely outlined by this braid in an oval on the originals.

I asked around and a forum member sent a photo of an original. It also has the red-blue placement as in Knotel.
The one shown in Johansson's Pickelhauben is the opposite; however, the helmet in his book may have a bogus field badge. His M15 Brunswick helmet is bad, for sure.

If you send me a PM I'll take pictures of the original Meckl. field badge in my collection and send them to you. You may then post them for me on this forum as I am unsure how to, exactly. I think I can get pretty good details on the braid, too.

That book is full of "badies". I still sometimes look at it though. :-"
