Per some requests, here is this wartime Schwerin helmet:

The stamp is blurred but with some attention you can make B A IX out:

I cannot decipher the name, but strangely it seems to refer to an officer (Uffz)...

What a nice one !!! You are so lucky to have it . They are rare.

If you do not mind, were did you get it and how long ago ?

From a guy in San Francisco, a long time ago. He had two helmets for sale: this one and a crappy Bavarian M15. Unfortunately, spikes had been switched! I tried to convince him that the fluted one belonged to the Mecklemburg helmet... no way. Reasoning that the chance to find an M15 Mecklemburg spike as a spare part is not 100%, I bought both helmets...

Beautiful. Congratulations. :thumb up:
I have seen three Meck grey metal helmets for sale and all of them had the wrong spike (normal M1915 type). Did Meck ever use a "regular" spike?

John :???:

Bruno- you did the right thing of course by buying both. this is a exceptional helmet that would be a prime piece in any collection

That is a real good question . I would like to know as well.

I had a chance to get a grey Bav. Chev . but it had a standard spike as well. I passed . In hindsight I probably should have gotten it. But chances of getting a fluted spike for that one is slim and none as well.

I would say finding a grey Meck spike are about the chances of a snowball surviving in a napalm storm.

Slightly lower actually.... That is a very rare helmet indeed.

No real surprise though who's collection it resides in :bravo:

Congratulations Bruno, that is one very spectacular and rare helmet! =D> \:D/ :bravo:

I would almost give my right arm to own one of these. :)

Best Regards,

Alan
