Good evening everyone,

I came across this plate and am having a hard time identifying exactly what it would have been on, it has the same exact details as a standard mecklenburg wappen except it has a shield in the center instead of an oval/ circle. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,
I’m no expert on this topic, but judging by the low quality I would say it is a reproduction.

Just my gut and initial feeling are as mentioned the poor quality and the details especially in the bull heads just aren't there.

I would be very surprised if this was a period piece but with also not being an expert, would not consider my opinion as 100% certainty.

Will definitely defer to the experts and look forward to other thoughts.

I don't like the star shape. The stars of the principalities of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz were pointed and not rounded. The medallion was usually oval. In the Schwerin issue, the star was "cut off" at the bottom, while the Strelitz star was a full star. The medallion was round and not applied but embossed. I also consider this to be a fantasy remake.

Interestingly, the Strelitz Star was also sometimes used for other provinces. For example, Hamburg had Strelitz Stars on which the manufacturer had placed a Hamburg medallion. These stars came from overproduction and were therefore repurposed by the manufacturer. These were original.
