Merry Christmas - from Sainsburys Supermarket

A wonderful work on this "happening" was finished recently by Chris Baker and can be purchased on Amazon. He separates truth from the many stories told about this. You might want to check it out – I just think the ad was nice even if there are some pretty obvious historical flaws the intention was well done I thought.

Inexpensive, reliable, and timely.

Sainsburys hasn't been as popular as Monty the Penguin, but I found both ads to be really moving:

Although beautifully made, this ad has sparked some controversy.

I think the Guardian is wrong on this one. The truth is that there was a truce, and sadly a lot of people don't know about it. Perhaps this will help get the story told.

I think they are wrong also. However, Edwin is right – the World War I and history discussion groups are quite split on this subject. A lot of people thinking about Christmas. In the USA it would probably be criticized for not being politically correct – too religious for some.

I don't want to regurgitate the various arguments here critizing this ad, which can be found on the internet. However, I have mixed feelings about it as well because its historically incorrect and I oppose the commercialization of the christmas truce.

Edwin
