Metal Uhlan Mortarboard

Greetings, All.

Do any of you recognize this style of Uhlan mortarboard?

It is intended to be permanently afixed to the helmet shell, no bayonet mount like the M1915 and it has no provision for a feldzeichen or setup for the tether line.

To give you the whole story, this is a modern copy, but it is a dead accurate copy of an original that I have buried in a box somewhere (we moved earlier this year, the chaos is still with us).

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,

Laurie

Guys,

I really would appreciate your help on this one. The original came off a very badly thrashed leather helmet shell; dried out, rotten, a huge tear, just generally beyond repair; but I thought that the mortarboard was interesting so I salvaged it.

If you have any ideas, I would appreciate.

Cheers,

Laurie

Hi, I can just inform you that some M15 tschapskas were mounted with a permanent metal mortar board, I mean that metal mortar board are not always amovible
hope this helps

Thank you, Steve, I appreciate the input.

I also wondered if this style might have been used for some sort of ersatz helmet as it would have been much easier to produce than the standard M1915 bayonet mount type.

Cheers,

Laurie
