Militär Beamte / Railwaymen?

Gentlemen,

I'd like to put a credible narrative to this picture but as usual I am struggling to 100% identify the fellows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing on reverse.

Thanks in advance,

They look like the guys from the rail road to me- but this can be kind of confusing and I just don't know a lot. This first example I think is a mailman. We had this picture up before and I think Tony recognized the outfit.

But then there is this beauty clearly a combination of rail road and army.

I agree with Joe, the winged wheel is still the symbol for the railroad.

The more I look at that first picture the more I realize how lousy job the photographer did. Look at the backdrop. It is crooked and you can see above it. Clear picture but that guy did not earn his money.

The two men at the lower right also feature winged wheels on their collars and there are different styles of shirts. Are these ranks insignia and is the standisation of these uniforms knows? Also the guy up right appears to bear an extra large cap badge.

BTW thats quite a well-armed mailman. I would not want to owe him a postage due.

Hey Joe,
I thought those faults made the photo more interesting

Joe, your critique of the photographer's skill - or rather lack of it made me laugh. I was tempted to crop the photo, but I'm now glad I never. Thanks for the comparison photos too, armed with these and page 167 of the Handbook I should be able to come up with a half-decent sounding blurb on the picture.

Many thanks to you all.

These fellows are Landsturm. The post card was mailed and cancelled by the Bahn Post, which was sent by train, comparable to todays air mail.

Hey George, I thought their cap insignia looked quite similar to that of the standing chaps in Brett's photo some 8 posts up...
Then again these are described by Brett as 'XIII Armee-korps (Württ.) 52nd Infanterie Brigade / Eisenbahner'.
So what state are my guys from?

No telling without being able to read the collar dogs, or with the lack of a unit listed on the reverse. Their hats have the Landwehr Cross, that pretty much identifies them as Landsturm.
