Any collectors who have or like the parade miters
of the 2 Prussian regiments
1 Garde Regt zu Fuss
Kaiser Alexander Garde Grenadier Regt # 1
either enlisted or officers
please post your photos .

I have 8 parade miters
and as soon as I can post photos
I will post them on this site .

It appears at one time the letters
on the Semper Talis banner
were all in red
I guess over the years it
was cleaned and most of the red was removed

My enlisted 1 Garde Regt zu Fuss / Fusilier Batl miter
This is the " new " silver front miter to replace the
earlier one that was handed down to the KAGGR # 1
The puschel is yellow / white
the bag is yellow
the motto on the front plate for the Fusiliers
is " Pro Gloria et Patria "
This helmet had an excellent , great restoration
done by Tony S.
The hands on a genius .
That is another complete story .

It is my understanding that if the 1 G R zu Fuss
had a parade when they were to wear their miters
and the weather was bad ( rain )
they wore a " foul weather cover "
Just as the Fahna had an oil cloth cover for bad weather.
Here is an example of that cover .
As we see the NCO has his name tag sewn onto the front
of the cover 12 Kp

My officers miter 1 G R zu Fuss / Grenadier Batl.
most officers miters have the open hook on chin straps
like the enlisted where we see the bayonet fitting
This officers miter has a silver rosette over the end of the
chin straps .I have not seen many of these

Those are beautiful. Wonderful collection. You refer to "old" and "new" styles; what years do these cover? I noticed a couple of M91 lugs so I assume that they are post 1891. What year is the "old" style?

by Paul Pietsch Band I Fuss truppen
pages 66 & 67
He illustrates the first miter in the photo that I posted
The brass front plate with the Semper Talis banner
as Grenadier -Mutze 1824 for the 1st Garde Regt zu Fuss
since 1894 Regt Alexander
so the regiment wore that miter from 1824 up to 1894
as which time it was handed down to the KAGGR # 1
He then illustrates what I call the " new silver front plate " miter
for the 1st Garde Regt zu Fuss 1894
so the silver front plate miters starting 1894 up to
I guess when the war started and there were no more parades.

If you want to lean more about the miters a collector friend
Jim Turinetti published and has for sale a very nice little book
with many color & B & W photos of the miters
info on the miters .
I also collect original photos of soldiers of the 1 G R zu Fuss
and the KAGGR # 1 wearing the parade miters .
I loaned Jim many photos for his book .

For those collectors who own the Laine book
I might add that my officers 1 G R zu Fuss / Fusilier Batl miter
is from the former Jacques Pries Infantry collection .
While this helmet was not used in the book
other than Laine 's helmets
the other helmets shown in the book
were from the collections of Jacques Pries
and Walter Eric Hartmann.

A little information for you .
There is sort of an odd story about the 1 G R zu Fuss
now they received their new silver miters .
Jim Turinetti tells the story in his book on miters .
He gives an exact date of 9 February 1894
that only 3 Companies of the regiment were given the new
silver miters . They were 1st ; 5th and 9th Companies.
Kaiser Wilhelm II bought and paid for these out of
his personal money .
The miters were modeled after the miters of the Garde regiments
of Frederich the Great.
The Kaiser then "requested " that the War Minister come up
with the money for the miters for the other companies .
So there was a short time frame of about 2 months when some companies
wore the new miters and the rest of the regiment wore the old miters .

While I can not prove this photo is from 1894
I have to guess that it is
the 1 G R zu Fuss Fahna Co.
There are 9 soldiers in the photo
2 officers wear the new miters ; 1 officer the old miter
4 N C O 's wear new miters ; 2 N C O 's wear the old miters
There are only 3 Batls in the photo ; I ; II ; Fusilier
the Fusilier Fahnentrager is on the left
there is not yet a IV Batl
It was formed in 1894 , so no flag yet for them .
Only 1 pole has the flag attached to it
My guess is that new flags were being done for the others
all 3 Batl flag poles have the Sakular Parade Banners on them .
The regiment was 200 years old in 1888
so I guess the Sakular Banners were awarded after that date .

That's a wonderful photo, extremely clear for those days.
I almost purchased a mitre several years ago, but I then found out that the person selling it was known throughout the collecting community as a "fake artist" so I thought better of it. If I ever find one again you can bet I'll contact you for advice.

In my days I have seen a lot of miters that were bad .
They made some for the theater ,
years later to be passed off as the real thing .

Once you have a correct one in your hands
you will have no problem knowing what to look for .

Over the years I have not been able to find an
enlisted miter for the 1 G R zu Fuss / Grenadier Batl.
that is just what I am looking for .
The post 1894 model.
I have had better luck with the KAGGR # 1 enlisted miters
I hope to post photos of them today .

The one miter that I have never seen in a collection
or even a museum is the 1 G R zu Fuss officer pre 1894
with the Semper Talis banner .
There are photos of officers wearing them
but one has not shown up .

we see the new 1894 silver miters
do not yet have their chin straps .
The more I look , the more I see .

note the 2 holes in the front plate
which means the miter was worn pre 1894
by the 1 Garde Regt zu Fuss and had the Semper Talis banner
after 1894 it was given down to the KAGGR 1 and
the Semper Talis banner was removed .

that are al very nice mitres
I have once seen one but was in my early days of collecting so i was a rookie to tell if it was a real one or a fake
never came acros one since then
