Mix of helmets at Kolburg, January 1916

Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to the regiment? Apart from the mix of wappen, all wear "9" on their shoulder-straps and a couple of the fellows at the rear are armed with Gew 71s and 88s.

If the Schrieber had slammed down that stamp a little harder he might have saved me the trouble ;)

Very nice photo,
It is really a mishmash with theirs wappen.
The facts that they have number 9 on the shoulder straps and they are equipped with old Mausers 88 and 71 could indicate Reserve Grenadier Regt. 9.

They also wear an old pre war tunics.

Cheers,
Milosz

Brett,

I would list this as ninth grenadier. My reasoning may not be sound but it is at least explainable. The reserve unit for this regiment was reserve infantry regiment number nine. It was not reserve Grenadier Regiment 9. therefore I would think that there is less of a chance of having a grenadier Wappen any reserve infantry unit. Of course this argument is not airtight.

That's the best suggestion to date Joe, I'll run with this until proved otherwise. Thanks for taking the time to look at this one. Appreciate it.
