More SOS Pics B Loree

Nice photos of great items! Thanks for posting. Is that a silver 'W' cypher on the breast of that artillery helmet eagle, five photos down?

Thanks Joe,

The photo wouldn't zoom for me this morning, now it does. Doctored helmets... one reason to study up, then bring some books along. :)

I noticed the doctored helmets as well. Here's one of my two imperial era helmets that I bought at the show. This appeared to be not messed with other than some likely adjustment to the slightly damaged comb. I plucked this from the same table shown in the table above with KuK headgear and pickelhaubes (sans dragoon helmet by the time that picture was taken).

Bringing a lot of books along is really not necessary. There are plenty of people there to give you an opinion on the helmet. The only issue comes when you are in a hurry. If you want to have someone give it the stamp of approval you run the risk of someone buying it out from underneath you. Mark's example is perfect. He was interested in a helmet and while he was negotiating Maggie bought it. Mark just did not realize the true value of a village people's helmet. Live and learn!

Okay Joe, when I come to SOS, I'll beg you to come around with me. I just usually bring a pocket reference for regimental stamps and such. I remember when Floyd Tubbs was almost giving Portugese helmets away, but they are unique, no doubt about that!

I really am not the man – I would ask James he also knows where everything is. Randy is there when in doubt.
