Hello I'm flying to Berlin on Thursday, could you help me with any good museums to see Imperial German stuff :D
Thanks :)

There was a rather nice display of Imperial aviation uniforms and orders and decorations (much from the collection of the late Dr Neil O'Connor in the Technical Museum. It is a couple of years since I last visited, so I cannot confirm that the display is still there.

Regards
Glenn

You must see this

uniforms from Bismarck, Wilhelm I. and Wilhelm II. Friedrich III. and much more.
A very special thing is the Versuchstschako from the 2.Eskadron Leib-Garde-Husaren-Regiment from 1911.

Great photo !
Here my translation of J-L Larcade Vol II pages 68 and 69 on this Probe Pattern:
"Probe/”Testing” Samples: 1900-1914:
-Only one Probe/sample is known between 1900 and 1914: a Tschako tested by the horsemen of the 2. Esk of the GardeHusaren Regt in 1911. This Tschako would, in the case of acceptance, have replaced the Pelzmütze…
-However, this type was found to be too hot to wear in summer, as part of the new Feldgrau dress. The pattern looked very old-fashioned. The Model had the shape of an inverted cone, with visor and neckguard of the Tschako Mod 1811 (such as worn in the GardeDragoner Esk-‘Normal Dragoner Esk’-however: not that heavy and less high. 16 cm high; with its top, shell, frontvisor and neckguard made of ‘Feldgrau’ leather. The Tschako’s body is made of Feldgrau felt or has a cover in that colour. On the sides, two vents.
-The Feldzeichen, the Reichskokarde and the chinscales are identical to those of the Mannsch Mod 1866/1894 pattern. The Fangschnur, attached to the back of the lid is identical to the one for the busby-white or Feldgrau. The Wappen is the Garde Stern in “sandblasted” brass, because this head-dress was indended to be worn without the camouflage cover".

Francis

Correction:
the shell itself was not made of Feldgrau leather. Top"Lid", bottom band, frontvisor and neckguard were.
