My First Haube

Hi all,

My first Pickle. Marks inside are: B.A.XV, 171(F) or (B) 1915 Makers stamp inside "Julius Jansen, Strasburg".

Believe XV Army and 171 Infantry were formed from men of Strasburg and they mainly served ear the Swiss border?

Any other info would be nice.

Mick

Thanks James.

Would I be right in thinking, now I have searched the site, that the (F) after 171 means the helmet was repaired in 1915?

Mick

Hi Mick,
As James said, very nice helmet for your first. :thumbleft: Most of us started off with a beater.

We did have a discussion some time ago, that pointed to the "f' having a "probable" meaning of Feldbrauchbar which means Field wearable (or field-serviceable). So yes, probably. But I have usually seen these stamps by themselves, not combined with a number like your 171? Tony

Mick: Welcome to the forum. Great hat...my first was a total beater with tattered liner and red rot to boot. Brian

My vote is that the "F" is actually an "R". That would make a lot more sense to me.
Very nice helmet.
Steve

Thanks peeps for your replies.

I have placed a photo of the Julius Jansen Mark in the Marks sticky part 2.

Have also made a post in "Help" about a reference book I obtained with the hat.

I'll get a magnifying glass and check the (F). Will keep you posted on that one.
