My first Pickelhaube - thoughts?

Got it in the mail today. Any additional thoughts now that I have some closer photos of the cockades and chinstrap? The national cockade appears to be pretty old and faded. Should I be put off at all that the chinstrap has brass fittings? I know the dealer is a reputable one, but I was hoping for an extra set of eyes and opinions just to be safe. Its advertised as all original. Do the chinstrap and cockades look right?

That's a great pickelhaube to start with! Nice condition and it's enlisted too! Everything looks good to me. Chinstrap looks original. It's hard to tell about the kokarden from the pictures but I think they are good ones, the Reichs kokarde should be a red-orange color. Now that you have your first I can say with great certainty that it won't be your last.

Nice helmet. Nice markings. I would not be put off by the chin strap fixtures. You can always look for one if it bothers you. Originals do come up but are a bit pricey.

Nice M15 congrats! Be aware you are probably now infected by the haube virus :D

Regards,

Edwin

I would love to collect the various enlisted M1915's, but Pickelhaubes seem like such a mine field. There are so many different pieces that are so readily faked or pieced out. It's a bit terrifying to someone with little experience with them.
