My German Camo Stahlhelm M1917

After reading Stalhelm's (Hans's) pretty informative comments on the Latvian Totenkopf Helmet, I had yet another close look at my (only) camo M17 and you can clearly see the factory field gray paint underneath the chips in many areas... Not to mention that it came from the Great White North (Collector's Guild)

Here are some more closeups of my typical 4-tone 1918 regulations camo. with its salty look and a frail liner that I carefully reinforced as it was literally falling apart:

I think the camo looks fine - it's quite a nice pattern. The liner pads look a bit fragile but otherwise look good too. Has the interior been oiled or shellacked? It could just be the lighting.

Hey Hans,
It is indeed a nice 4-tone regulations pattern:

I just applied a bit of G96 gun oil as the rust was still active and nibbling out of the metal. But it is less shiny than it looks with the flash. As for the pads, I carefully reinforced 2 of them as they were literally falling apart. Here's a before photo for comparison:

Thanks Karel!
Here's a couple of additional photos while playing with my toys recently:

Nice helmet!!! A great job on the restoration of the liner. What did you use for the repair? I have used rubber cement and cheese cloth.

Thank you gentlemen!
Jerry, I applied a thin coat of G96 protective oil to the shell without rubbing too hard.
As for the liner: Leather glue and simili leather patches for the torn and loose parts.
It is still quite flaky but in a much steadier condition. Plus the draw string, which was complete but tied in a knot, can now go through all 6 tongues.

Thanks Brian!
Much appreciated especially coming from Dr Pickelhaubes himself :)
