Just arrived...
PC1 - Mailed 26 AUG 1913:
Those men are manipulating the nowadays rare to find earlier issues of the Mauser Kar98--shorter than the standard wartime issue Gew98 rifle with turn down bolt, piling hook, bayonet bar & a muzzle protector which blocked the foresight until removed for firing (you can actually see the latter on most rifles in the picture!)
