my old vickers

here are some photo's of my old Vickers, her serial number gives her a manufacture date of April - June 1918
right in the middle of the spring offensive so must have been sent out urgently
note the dates on the rounds these were dug up in France the whole lot (several hundred) came out of one hole so probably fired originally from one of these.

It's not a problem - Gus can take his ambulance, just in case!

The way the shooter handles the weapon. Like a sewing machine.... 8)

Take this little beast to Bisley !!!

I had a friend in Wien who was invited to join the German army in WWII, he was asked what his profession was and when he told them he was a concert pianist, they made him a machine gunner, because with his musical training, he would be able to fire the machine gun with out melting the barrel.

I love the Vickers. The only problem is that the poem wouldn't work as well:

Whatever happens we have got...
A Vickers and they have not.

Then again in World War I everyone had Maxims and Vickers and that was the problem!

Lovely gun. Here are a few images just to add some background.
These are German photos who as we know loved to take images of captured equipment, destroyed positions and sadly battle casualties.
