Hello Hamblin and welcome to the Forum.
Unfortunately, this is a reproduction. If you compare it with photos of original helmets, you will quickly recognize that the quality of the parts is very bad. I first thought the shell might be original, but the liner is made from the wrong leather. That’s why I think the complete helmet is an artificial aged reproduction. Sorry for the bad news 🫥

Oh really, I bought this as a original the seller said he bought it from a convention in Belgium in the 90s and this is his description

Due to several fake helmets I would say he’s a fraudster. I’m really sorry for your son. Next tell him to ask for advice here before buying. It’s difficult to evaluate if a pickelhaube is original or fake for beginners. We are all passionate collectors and help free of charge. We also have a code of honor and don’t snatch helmets away if questions are asked about it here. Each of us started small and I also bought my first helmets after consulting with a collector from this forum at the time. With the prices for such helmets, it’s better to be sure.

Thank You for your advice, I will return the helmet to the seller. He was very abrupt when I questioned him about it. Just one more thing do people sell in here on the forum?

Dear, as a beginner I would advise you to buy some good books, there are quite a few, I also remember my first weeks when I was scouring the internet for my first pickelhaube, there are some for sale but think before you start I would say, do not rush because your first purchase is usually a bad one, patience will certainly be rewarded

Welcom to the forum. ;)
When I started collecting militaria in 1965, there was nothing to learn about it. Today, there are fantastic books, there's the internet, and especially forums like this one. Don't hesitate to ask questions here before you buy. We're here to help.

Thank you I will, but I’m quite enjoying this forum at the moment. My son is really into ww1 militaria and has been for years so my first purchase will be for him.
